🐆 Leopard Gecko (Eublepharis macularius) Care Sheet

Origin: Arid and semi-arid regions of Pakistan, India, and Afghanistan
Size: 20–25 cm (8–10 inches)
Lifespan: 10–20 years in captivity
Temperament: Docile, easy to handle, and beginner-friendly
Activity: Nocturnal and terrestrial

🏠 Housing

  • Enclosure Size: A single adult should be housed in a minimum 60 cm x 45 cm x 30 cm (2' x 1.5' x 1') vivarium or terrarium.

  • Substrate: Use solid options for young geckos. Avoid loose substrates like sand to prevent impaction. Adults can use sand.

  • Hides: Provide at least three hides: warm side, cool side, and a moist hide for shedding.

  • Décor: Add rocks, branches, and other décor for enrichment.

🌡️ Temperature & Lighting

  • Warm Side: 31–34°C (88–93°F)

  • Cool Side: 24–27°C (75–80°F)

  • Night Temp: Can drop to 18–22°C (64–72°F)

  • Heat Source: Use an under-tank heater or heat mat controlled with a thermostat.

  • Lighting: UVB is optional but recommended (2–5%) to support natural behaviour and health.

💧 Humidity

  • Humidity Range: 30–40% (low)

  • Moist Hide: Keep one hide humid (using moist moss) to assist with shedding.

🥗 Feeding

  • Diet: Insectivorous – locusts, crickets, dubia roaches, and mealworms of appropriate size are ideal.

  • Feeding Frequency: Juveniles daily, adults every other day.

  • Supplements: Dust insects with calcium daily and multivitamin 1–2 times weekly.

🧼 Cleaning

  • Spot Clean: Daily removal of faeces and uneaten food.

  • Deep Clean: Clean enclosure thoroughly every 2–4 weeks with reptile-safe disinfectant.
