🐆 Leopard Gecko (Eublepharis macularius) Care Sheet

A classic starter reptile, the Leopard Gecko is hardy, low-maintenance, and perfect for keepers of all experience levels.

Origin: Arid and semi-arid regions of Pakistan, India, and Afghanistan
Size: 20–25 cm (8–10 inches)
Lifespan: 10–20 years in captivity
Temperament: Docile, easy to handle, and beginner-friendly
Activity: Nocturnal and terrestrial


🏠 Housing

  • Minimum enclosure size: 60 cm x 45 cm x 30 cm (2' x 1.5' x 1') for one adult

  • Use solid substrate (e.g. tile, paper towel) for juveniles

  • Adults can use fine sand if digestion and feeding practices are managed carefully

  • Provide at least three hides: warm, cool, and moist

  • Add rocks, branches, and enrichment décor to encourage exploration

🌡️ Temperature & Lighting

  • Warm side: 31–34°C (88–93°F)

  • Cool side: 24–27°C (75–80°F)

  • Night temperature: Can drop to 18–22°C (64–72°F)

  • Use an under-tank heat mat or heat cable, always with a thermostat

  • Low-level UVB (2–5%) is optional but recommended for natural rhythm and wellbeing

  • Maintain a 12-hour light/dark cycle

💧 Humidity

  • Ideal humidity: 30–40%

  • Provide a moist hide with damp moss to aid shedding

  • Avoid raising overall enclosure humidity too high

🥗 Feeding

  • Insectivorous diet of crickets, locusts, dubia roaches, mealworms, and other live feeders

  • Feed juveniles daily

  • Feed adults every other day

  • Dust insects with calcium at every feeding

  • Add a multivitamin supplement 1–2 times per week

🧼 Cleaning

  • Spot clean daily to remove faeces and leftover insects

  • Deep clean the enclosure every 2–4 weeks using reptile-safe disinfectant

  • Rinse and dry décor thoroughly before returning it to the enclosure
