🐸 White’s Tree Frog (Litoria caerulea) Care Sheet

Also Known As: Dumpy Tree Frog, Australian Green Tree Frog
Origin: Australia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea
Size: 7–11 cm (3–4.5 inches)
Lifespan: 10–15 years (up to 20 with excellent care)
Temperament: Docile, hardy, and very beginner-friendly
Activity: Nocturnal and arboreal

🏠 Housing

  • Enclosure Size: Ideally 45 x 45 x 60 cm (18" x 18" x 24") for 1–2 adults

  • Type: Vertical terrarium preferred with screen top for airflow

  • Substrate: Coconut fibre, sphagnum moss, or bioactive mix to retain humidity

  • Décor: Climbing branches, cork bark, large leaves, plants and hides—keep it naturalistic

  • Water Feature: Optional but appreciated; must be shallow and clean

🌡️ Temperature & Lighting

  • Day Temp: 24–28°C (75–82°F)

  • Night Temp: 18–22°C (65–72°F)

  • Basking Spot: Not strictly needed, but keep a warm area at 28°C (82°F)

  • Lighting:

    • UVB not required, but low-level (2.0–5.0) can enhance health and natural behavior

    • 12-hour light/dark cycle

💧 Humidity

  • Ideal Range: 50–70%

  • Misting: 1–2 times daily; use dechlorinated water

  • Hydration: Frogs absorb moisture through their skin—no standing water needed, but shallow dish is great

🍽 Feeding

  • Diet: Insectivorous – locusts, crickets, dubia roaches, black soldier fly larvae, earthworms etc.

  • Feeding Frequency:

    • Juveniles: Daily

    • Adults: Every 2–3 days

  • Supplements: Dust with calcium w/o D3 every feeding, with D3 once per week, and multivitamins once weekly

🧼 Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Spot Clean: Daily

  • Full Clean: Every 2–4 weeks; bioactive setups need less frequent deep cleaning

  • Skin Safety: Always wash hands before and after handling; their skin is absorbent and sensitive
